When the strongest, smartest people face the toughest challenges of their lives, their instinct is to think neutrally – Trevor Moawad
There are many books on positive thinking. Yet positive thinking alone does not address the real issues. Even the writings of Tony Robbins have tried to move people beyond the belief that all it takes is positive thinking to overcome problems and be successful in life. Obviously, negative thinking is not helpful, but positive thinking alone will not address the issues at hand.
Trevor Moawad is the son of the renowned motivational speaker, Bob Moawad. Bob’s teachings and writings focused heavily on positive thinking. He raised Trevor with these same concepts and helped to build the foundation to Trevor’s life and teachings. However, Trevor advanced these concepts to focus more on what he called neutral thinking. Neutral thinking is the process of focusing on the next steps towards a goal and changing behavior without rendering opinions. This approach also focuses on removing negative thinking. “When we eliminate negativity, it allows our brain to process more efficiently” (Moawad, 2021).
Trevor spent his career working with professional athletes across many sports – first with IMG Sports Academy and eventually with his own company. Readers will learn concepts and processes that can be used in all areas of life. However, there is even more going on within this book that should be absorbed…as Trevor wrote this book, he was battling cancer. Readers will look at these concepts in the light of his personal battle for life. Unfortunately, Trevor did not win the battle; the book was released four months after his death. So, we all have the opportunity to consider how these philosophies work to guide in the face of what was ultimately an insurmountable challenge. Trevor was able to continue to work and to inspire throughout a private battle.
I’m not asking you to be mindful, do yoga, or meditate. I’m asking you to stop doing the unnecessary thing that makes you mad/sad/insecure/frustrated/depressed – Trevor Moawad
